WE RAISE FUNDS WITH CORAL PRODUCTS FOR THE MEDCORAL PROGRAM. THE FIRST NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR THE KNOWLEDGE, CONSERVATION AND PROTECTION OF CORALS.
Did you know that there are corals in the Mediterranean?
Corals around the planet are in danger as a result of human activities, led by climate change, pollution and industrial fishing. Proof of this is that in the last 50 years more than 50% of the world's corals have been lost. A fact that has been repeated in the corals of the Mediterranean.
Faced with this situation, in 2007 the Man and Territory Association (HyT) launched a series of projects, initiatives and purposes aimed at the study, conservation and protection of corals, also integrating innovation, science and engineering in each of the steps that are carried out. they perform.
In fact, HyT has assessed the conservation status of 59 coral species , such as the orange coral ( Astroides calycularis ) and the only coral species that forms true coral reefs, Cladocora caespitosa , both listed as Vulnerable.
The HyT Association is a pioneer in the transplant and translocation of coral colonies in the Mediterranean, a methodology for the restoration of coral populations, with a survival success of 80% . Currently, the entity works to optimize the restoration processes of coral habitats with a novel, efficient and pioneering approach at a global level, working on the conservation of natural gene banks of coral species: our restoration techniques solve the problem of genetic poverty that other types of restoration techniques imply.
Therefore, after 15 years of experience in coral conservation, the first nationally and internationally recognized program aimed at the knowledge, conservation and protection of corals in the Mediterranean and Atlantic areas was born:
